Philadelphia Hosts ACF’s Northeast Region Chefs

St. Augustine, Fla., March 21, 2003—The City of Brotherly Love welcomed members of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) March 14–17 for the federation’s Northeast region conference. The following individuals, chapters, and teams took top regional honors and will compete at the national level during the 2003 ACF National Convention in Washington, D.C., July 25–29, 2003.

ACF Northeast Region Chef of the Year Representative
Keith Coughenour, CEC

Sewickley, Pennsylvania
Coughenour is executive chef at The Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh. He will participate in a cook-off in July at the 2003 ACF National Convention at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C.

ACF Northeast Region Chef Professionalism Award Winner
Rene Rawraway, CEC, CCE

Ashland, Ohio
Rawraway, who is chef and assistant professor at Ashland University in Ashland, is now a finalist for the 2003 ACF National Chef Professionalism Award to be given in July at the 2003 ACF National Convention. The award is sponsored by Minor’s, a division of Nestlé FoodServices.

ACF Northeast Region Student Member of the Year
Asa Rodriguez

Elyria, Ohio
Rodriguez is now a finalist for the 2003 ACF National Student Member of the Year award and will participate in a cook-off at the 2003 ACF National Convention in July at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C. The award is sponsored by Custom Food Products, Inc.

ACF Northeast Region Student Hot Food Competition
State University of New York at Delhi
won the Northeast Region Student Hot Food Competition. Team members are: Michael Hudak, captain, Jason Amell, Shawn Hafele, Louis Pesout, and Travis West. The team will compete in the Student Team National Championship at the 2003 ACF National Convention in Washington, D.C. The competition is sponsored by R.L. Schreiber.

ACF Northeast Region Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl
The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College
took first place in the Northeast Region Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl and will compete in the national competition in Washington, D.C., during the national convention. Team members are LeClere Nanney, captain, Elizabeth Cook, Raphael Crawford, Matthew McPhelin, and Pam Walker. Pennsylvania Culinary Institute took second place. The Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl is sponsored by The Art Institutes, Culinary Arts.

. This award is given by the ACF Chef & Child Foundation to recognize outstanding participation in and contribution to eliminating childhood hunger in America.
