Brent T. Frei Joins ACF as Director of Marketing, Publisher

St. Augustine, Fla., April 21, 2003—Brent T. Frei, former editor-in-chief of Chef magazine, joined the American Culinary Federation (ACF) as director of marketing and publisher April 1. He will create and implement an innovative marketing program for ACF that includes strengthening the marketability of The National Culinary Review, advertising sales, ACF’s seal of approval, and other projects geared toward the branding of ACF to consumers and a broad professional audience. Frei will also work closely with MT Cuisine, LLC, to achieve ACF convention objectives while creating synergy with sponsors.

In announcing Frei’s position, ACF President Edward Leonard said, “This position within the ACF structure is long overdue and much needed as we grow membership and look to brand ACF.”

Frei, who has been a foodservice journalist for 15 years, launched his career as editor of The National Culinary Review. In 1993 he was named ACF’s director of communications. He left ACF in late 1994 to become senior food editor of Restaurants and Institutions magazine in Des Plaines, Ill. Two years later, he joined Talcott Communications in Chicago as editor-in-chief of Chef magazine, and in 2000 he was named associate publisher of Chef Educator Today magazine.

A native of St. George, Utah, Frei graduated from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville in 1988. He serves on the advisory boards of Washburne Culinary Institute, part of City Colleges of Chicago, and Sullivan University in Louisville, Ky. Additionally, he is a member of the International Foodservice Editorial Council based in Hyde Park, N.Y.
