Super Chef

Guam’s State Agency for Child Nutrition Programs recently unveiled Super Chef, the first nutrition mascot, in Guam’s schools. The creation of the mascot was a volunteer effort between CCF supporter Robert Walter, CEC, CCA, AAC, food and beverage director at the Navy’s local Morale Welfare and Recreation office. The superhero will make appearances at schools and other community organizations to speak to children and families about the importance of eating healthy and having healthy habits. More (1.25 MB)

Lunchtime Cooking Station

Chefs from Chartwells School Dining Services and Morrison Management Specialist joined forces to conduct a lunchtime display cooking station at Beverly Hills High School. Diners had a choice of chicken or tofu in lettuce wraps and watched as chefs sautéed the food with a choice of sauces and a vegetable mix right in front of them. Special thanks to Morrison Sous Chefs Khamberlie Taaca and Lucas Cavin, as well as Joseph Kraft, CEC, CCA, AAC, Morrison Corporate Executive Chef, and Orlando Luevano, Chartwell’s Regional Chef.

Chefs in Our School

ACF of Glens Falls New York hosted a Chef & Child event for K–6 students in the Joseph Henry Elementary School cafeteria as part of Galway Central School’s Chefs in Our School program. The program is also supported by the United States Department of Agriculture and by the Galway School Health Awareness Committee. The aim of the program was to involve school children in the creation of healthy meals while promoting their understanding of nutrition and overall wellness. Chefs set up different food stations for students and families to prepare food for the meal that was then cooked by the chefs and served buffet style. While the food was being cooked, information about nutrition and wellness was shared.

Cooking to Create MyPlate

Robert Hedetniemi, CEC, executive chef, nutrition services, National Institutes of Health, recently did a cooking demonstration at a USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C. The demonstration focused on the MyPlate concept, creating a dish around the sections of grains, protein, vegetables, fruits and diary. Watch the video and download the recipes.

Tea Party

ACF Southwestern Virginia Chapter hosted a tea party at an elementary school in Roanoke, Va. The students made their own tea sandwiches and learned about nutrition. Special thanks to Chef James J. Zeisler Sr., CEC, CCA, CDM, CFPP.

Snack Pack Program

ACF Greater Atlanta Chapter, Inc. provided healthy snacks to children in need over spring break. They handed out 172 snack packs, each containing healthy snacks for 5 days. The chapter continues to hold nutrition classes at the school. Thank you chapter members for your continuous support and dedication.
