WACS Certification Information


World Association of Chefs SocietiesThe World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), a global network of more than seventy different countries chefs' associations, has launched a worldwide chef certification program. This program recognizes significant achievement in professional cooking and catering for chefs around the world. Certification is based on international standards of education and training. The American Culinary Federation (ACF) is honored to be the administrative agency for this global initiative.


Eligible candidates must pass a written exam and meet the following two criteria:


1. Work experience.

  • Minimum seven years experience at the working chef level of one of the following:
    • Sous Chef
    • Chef de Cuisine
    • Garde Manger
    • Executive Chef
      And
    • Studied in a formal apprenticeship program,
      -or-
    • Received a culinary (catering) certificate, diploma or degree.


-OR-


  • Minimum ten years experience at the working chef level of one of the following:
    • Sous Chef,
    • Chef de Cuisine,
    • Garde Manger,
    • Executive Chef


2. Proof of education in Sanitation and Food Safety (hygiene).
Must be in the form of one of the following:

  • Certificate
  • License
  • Diploma

Additional education in nutritional cooking, supervision and management is also required and will be tested on the written certification exam.
