Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl
Sponsored by Pearson Prentice Hall

The American Culinary Federation is pleased to announce that Pearson Prentice Hall is the new sponsor of the Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl. One of the first projects at hand is working with ACF to implement a makeover for the incredibly popular team competition. Updates will include the addition of audio and video clues and challenges, an interactive Q&A session with the audience during breaks, prize giveaways and more.

"Making the game more interactive and adding a higher-tech element will breathe some added excitement into what is already a highly-competitive event" said ACF National President John Kinsella, CMC, CCE, AAC. "The Knowledge Bowl has been an iconic part of our annual events for over a decade, and we feel that, with the help of Pearson Prentice Hall, it can become an even more integral part of our educational programming."

2008 Knowledge Bowl Team Registration
Knowledge Bowl Team Registration forms are now available online. The deadline for application submission for teams competing in the Central regional conference is December 31, 2007. The application fee for 2008 is $250.

The competition is open to teams from ACF chapters, ACF apprenticeship programs and accredited American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC) institutions. Knowledge Bowl teams compete at their respective ACF Regional Conference. The winning team from each region earns the right to contend for the national title during ACF's National Convention. The 2008 national competition will take place during the tradeshow, Tuesday, July 15th at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

History
First held at the 1992 ACF National Convention in Washington, D.C., the Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl is the brainchild of Carol Kelly, a member of the Nation's Capital Chefs' Association and a culinary instructor. She used the competition format as a way of testing her vocational high school students.

As the competition grew, it was named after former ACF President and long time advocate of apprentices and junior members, Baron H. Galand, CEC.
