Our colonial themed conference turned out to be a great success as
we celebrated a "Culinary Revolution." Surrounded by history, Williamsburg
set the perfect scene to explore our culinary past while sharpening
our skills for the future.
The Vice President's Gala was a special highlight of the weekend as
we turned the gala into a groaning board feast! Along with the abundance
of food, our dinner was accompanied by strolling balladeers, and fife
and drum corps.
I send my congratulations to all the 2008
Southeast Regional Conference award winners. Good luck in your
pursuit of the National title, we're rooting for you!
Programming for this year's conference was both informative and entertaining.
A "Culinary Revolution" at general session included a seminar on "18th
Century Influence" presented the Historic Foodways Department of the
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. This enlightening program was followed by "Future Ready," a presentation by Chef Robert Corliss of Food IQ.
Attendees also enjoyed Presidential Pastry by former White House Executive Pasty Chef Roland Mesnier as he recreated one of his artful presentations. Mesnier described his career in the White House
and what it was like creating desserts for some of the most powerful
and influential guest lists imaginable.
From the Origins of Beer, to Virginia Wines, to Sustainable Farming & Seafood, the Southeast region put culinary excellence on display.
If you forgot to bring your camera, don't worry. We have posted all
the conference pictures online. View

Finally, thank you to all who helped make the 2008 ACF Southeast Regional
Conference a success, especially:
