World Association of Chefs Societies
When you join ACF, you become a member of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS). WACS is a global network of chefs associations first founded in October 1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris. Today, the organization comprises 75 official chefs associations. WACS is a non-political, professional organization dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary standards of global cuisines. These goals are accomplished through education, training and professional development of international membership.
As an authority and opinion leader on food, WACS represents a global voice on all issues related to the culinary profession. It is managed by an elected presidential body consisting of the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary general, and ambassador, and honorary president, as well as a board of continental directors that oversee various regions of Asia, Northern, Central, and Southern Europe, Africa, the Pacific and the Americas. In addition, WACS will hold the first worldwide chefs competition,
the WACS
Global Chefs Challenge, in 2008. The preliminary competition began
in 2006, when each of the 75 WACS member countries had the opportunity
to hold a culinary competition to select their country's Global Chef
candidate. In 2007, those winners moved on to the continental competition
to represent Africa, Asia, the Americas, the Pacific and Europe. In
2008, the continental winners will compete at the final competition
at the WACS World Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Congress will be held at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition
Centre from May 12th to 15th 2008. (www.dicec.ae).
The venue will be the centre's magnificent Sheik Rashid Hall. The
main thrust of the congress will concern showcasing the prevailing
exotic lifestyle of UAE residents. Arabian culture and the myriad
cuisines and cultures of the diversity of nations that go to the making
of the great city of Dubai will be prominently featured. (more)
