The 2008 Western Regional Conference put the spotlight on freedom and
paid tribute to our country's military and the Culinarians from within
their ranks. The tradeshow was the forum for a first-of-its-kind Freedom
Chefs Challenge which featured two-man teams from the Army, Navy, Air
Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard branches competing head-to-head in
an impressive culinary competition.
The celebration of freedom continued during General Session with a
video presentation of the 33rd annual U.S. Army Culinary Arts
Competition from Ft. Lee, VA and a keynote address by David J.
Longstaff, CW4, Mission Support Element of Fort Carson, Colorado.
Notable educational programming included the Top Toque East West
Culinary expo featuring Chefs Bill Sy and Walter Leible; Beyond Bonbons
with Neils Knudsen; Creative Garnishes by Ray Duey, and the nuances of
becoming a Professional Personal Chef with Candy Wallace, Executive
Director and Founder of the American Personal and Private Chef
Association.
Congratulations to all the 2008
Western Regional Conference award winners. I wish you luck in the
pursuit of the National title, we're rooting for you!
