2012 Western Regional Conference AAC
Events
The 2012 ACF Western Regional Conference in Reno, the “Biggest
Little City in the World,” was a great success! Western Regional
Vice President David Goodwin, CEC, CCA, AAC, and the ACF High Sierra
Chefs Association did an outstanding job organizing and hosting the
event. Camaraderie was great, the food magnificent, and the educational
offerings were phenomenal.
Fellow chef Garry Waldie, M.Ed., CEC, CEPC, CCE, AAC, did an
outstanding job presenting the AAC demo, The Art of Classical Techniques
with Contemporary Trends, with his student Heather Mundry. Nothing but
positive comments from the members! “What a treat having this
class, one of the best presentations of the conference.”
“Chef Waldie did an exceptional job of using up-to-date
technique.” Thank you, Chef Garry, for coming forward and living
our AAC mission statement.
A warm and heartfeld “thank you” to Executive Chef
Michael Norton, CEC, AAC, and his staff at John Ascuaga’s Nugget
for hosting an extraordinary American Academy of Chefs dinner. It was an
unforgettable night of exceptional Gastronomique fare that was enjoyed
by a hundred guests in attendance.
The AAC is proud to once again support our culinary teams with grants
to assist with travel expenses to the regional conferences. This
year’s Western teams receiving the grant of $750 went to ACF Chefs
Association of Southern Arizona/PIMA College and Art Institute, coach
Elizabeth Mikesell, CEC, AAC; ACF Alaska Culinary Association/Alaska
Culinary Academy, coach Kevin Lane, CEC; and ACF Washington State Chefs
Association/Bellingham Technical College, coach Michael Baldwin, CCE. In
addition, the AAC will also award the regional champions, ACF Orange
Empire Chefs & Professional Cooks Association/Orange Coast College,
coach Bill Barber, CEC, a $1,000 grant for travel expenses to national convention.
