ACF Headquarters Survives Hurricane

The national office of ACF, which closed for several days last week due to lack of electricity and telephone service in the wake of Hurricane Frances, is fully operational to serve its members. Managing director Dawn Jantsch extends her thanks to all who expressed concern and support of staff members whose homes were without electricity and other utilities in the aftermath of the storm.

ACF's Internet server was not able to accept e-mails while power was out. If you e-mailed ACF during the timeframe of Sept. 3 to 10 and did not receive a response, most likely the intended party did not receive it. Please resend your e-mail so that we may get back to you, or feel free to call us at (800) 624-9458.

ACF to Exhibit at Florida Restaurant Show

The Florida Restaurant Show has been rescheduled for October 22-24, 2004, due to the severe weather affecting the state. ACF will exhibit at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando at booth #1981. Please stop by and visit us if you are attending the show. For more information, visit www.floridarestaurantshow.com.

Deadline for Many 2005 National Awards Is Oct. 29

The deadline is fast approaching to nominate someone or be nominated for most of ACF's top national awards in 2005, among them, Chef of the Year, Pastry Chef of the Year, Chef Professionalism, Student Culinarian of the Year and Hermann G. Rusch Chef's Achievement. Even the Educator of the Year Award, which traditionally maintained a later deadline, will close earlier to accommodate a new competition that will determine the award-winner at ACF's 2005 National Convention in San Antonio, July 30-August 3. Deadline to receive completed forms for all the above awards is October 29.

The heat is on to nominate the best candidates before the deadline! All applications and awards criteria are conveniently located for review and download at www.acfchefs.org/events/evt.html.

Criteria and a nomination form for the 2005 Achievement of Excellence Awards, with a deadline of February 28, 2005, are also online.

For additional information on any of ACF's national awards, contact Tracy Smith at (800) 624-9458, x114, or e-mail tsmith@acfchefs.net.
