The Culinary Insider - November 24, 2008 (Vol. VI, Issue 24)

Dear ACF members, partners and supporters:

This week we celebrate Thanksgiving, and there is much for which we should be thankful. During this busy time, take a moment to reflect on your good fortune and how lucky we are to be part of such an exciting industry. Also, I ask that you please keep in mind our troops and their families.

I am thankful to be involved with such a great group of culinarians, and wish all of you and your families a happy and safe Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Warm Wishes,

John Kinsella, CMC, CCE, WGMC, AAC
ACF National President

What Do You Think?

Are national standards for menu labeling a good idea?
A new bill, called the Labeling Education and Nutrition, or LEAN, Act of 2008, was unveiled at the National Restaurant Association’s 2008 Public Affairs Conference, Sept 23. The bill was created to replace inconsistent state and local nutrition ordinances with a national standard. If the bill is passed by the Senate, national standards would establish uniform regulations that require all restaurant and grocery chains with 20 or more outlets to display nutritional data for menu items to customers before they reach the point of purchase.

Do you think it is a good idea to have standardized national requirements? Or should states and local governments have the power to implement regulations? Tell us what you think on WeAreChefs.com. Not a member? It’s free to join.
