Mission Statement

The mission of ACFEF’s Chef & Child initiative is to educate children and families in understanding proper nutrition by providing tools and resources for community-based programs led by American Culinary Federation chef members.

Ingredient of the Month

Star anise - is a spice made from the dried fruit of an Illicium verum tree. The fruits of this tree have tiny oval seeds contained in pods shaped like a star. These pods are tough-skinned, rust-colored and have five to ten points. Both the pod and the seeds can be consumed. Learn more at

ACFEF Supports Healthy Eating with Grants

American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF), through the Chef & Child initiative, is offering ACF chefs and chapters grant funding to support nutrition outreach activities in their communities. Grant opportunities are available for events (i.e. cooking demonstrations, tastings), as well as programs (i.e. after-school programs, cooking classes). For more information, visit
